About Me

Hi all,

My name is Abigail Garcia and I am a 4th year student majoring in sociology and minoring in education. I am originally from Los Angeles, where I attended community college for 3 years. I transferred to UCSD in the fall of 2017 and am currently a senior (finally). After graduating, I plan on continuing my education and receiving a Master’s Degree in Education and Counseling and pursuing a career in college counseling, specifically at a community college.

Besides from being passionate about school, some of my hobbies include working out and being lazy. Kind of contradicting right? I love working out so I can release some stress and ultimately feel better about myself but I also love being a homebody and staying in and watching some Netflix or YouTube videos. I also love being outdoors by the beach or anywhere where it’s sunny and I can explore nature.

As far as campus involvement, this is my first time being involved in anything campus related. However, I am currently employed and work for Triton Mobility Services (TMS), our on campus service that provides rides throughout campus for disabled and handicapped students. Additionally, I was involved in research during the spring 2018 quarter and researched boxing in a working class community. I look forward to working with Marshall and being involved more across campus and meeting new people.

My advice to new students is to not fret or panic. Everything takes some time to adjust and get used to. I know that things might seem rough at first but trust me, they will get better. When I first got to UCSD I had a hard time adjusting and wanted to go home every weekend but overtime all my worries slowly started fading away. Just give it time and let things flow. And if you ever need help or just someone to talk to, you can always email me or visit me at office hours. My goal is to make your transition to UCSD as smooth and easy as possible.
