Anthony Jongco Oral History

“How are we innovating socially in people’s lives? How are we making sure each human can reach their highest potential? I think that’s an innovation.”

“Maybe we need to stop reinventing the wheel and taking the wheels that have already been invented for us. Like come on!”

Anthony Erum Jongco (they, them, theirs) is a born and raised San Diegan, originally from Chula Vista. In this oral history, they discuss their undergraduate experience at UCSD as well as the campus climate at the time, focusing on their involvement with the CCAAS Open Letter 2014. 

This interview covers topics such as identity, experiences of a queer Filipino-American, student activism, the CCAAS Open Letter 2014, mental health, and the strength of community.

The interview was conducted on Zoom by Erika May Capuyon, a third year Human Biology major at UCSD who is interested in the experiences of first-generation college students and advocating for disadvantaged communities.
