ParticipantAs a last photo share assignment, I would like to introduce a Japanese company, called Rakuten, Inc. The guy on the picture I posted is Hiroshi Mikitani, the CEO of Rakuten. The reason why I decided to post this picture is that currently, Rakuten attempts to break the barrier between Japanese and foreigner and give more places for foreign workers in the company. The strategy for these goals is that he changed the official language from Japanese to English at Rakuten. In my view, there are tons of factors which lead to a successful business, including diversity. Right now, the world society is changing rapidly; therefore, companies also need to change their business style as time goes by. Then, they need to have various type of discussion and opinion to find new business. As a result, diversity is highly important for the business right now. Therefore, I think that the innovation, changing the official language, by Rakuten remove the barrier between workers all over the world. Finally, I think that the ethnic is really important for everywhere to make something happiness. So, we should put the higher priority to think about ethnic for everything.

ParticipantThrough class discussion last Monday, I thought about the nuclear factory. Same as standing rock and #NoDAPL, there is an environmental issue which local people disagree, which is the nuclear factory in Japan. Japan is the dependent country which cannot get natural resources by ourselves. However, the government and companies try R&D to get natural resources by ourselves. Then, the government recently restarts the nuclear factory in Fukui, northern prefecture. In 2011, the nuclear factories in Fukushima were exploded because of the earthquake. After that, all the nuclear factory stopped. However, since 2016, the nuclear factory in Fukui restart because Fukui is the rural area. This is really difficult issues in Japan. I understand that Japan need energy by ourselves if we can because nobody know whether we can import energy in the future or not, especially recently, the Mideast is unstable and the trade war also happens. However, in my opinion, even though the nuclear factory has restarted, the government should provide something with people who live in Fukui, like financial support or an alternative place to live.

ParticipantMy picture refers the survey about Basic Income, a periodic cash payment unconditionally delivered to all on an individual basis, without means test or work requirement. Last week, we learned about racial capitalism. At the time, Flint said that the rich get richer and the poor stays the same under racial capitalism. I think that it must have happened as long as society is capitalism. In addition, currently, there are some opinions that the human job will be decreased because of improvement in technology. Then, the gap between rich and poor will increase more. Therefore, in my opinion, basic income is one of the good policies to eliminate the tendency. I think that the racism cannot eliminate as long as there are many people who are poor. The government should give them the opportunity to live and work by the basic income.

ParticipantI would like to share a historically huge earthquake in Japan, which is the Great East Japan Earthquake. It has happened in 2011 Spring. This is the picture which shows the nuclear meltdown in Japan because of the earthquake. Right now, there are still many people who still cannot go back to their house in Tohoku region because of meltdown. However, it costs a lot to repair the city, so the government has not repaired at all. In my view, the government has tons of issues which they need to consider. Therefore, I think that the government and companies can corporate together to repair the city.

Participant<span style=”font-weight: 400;”>I would like to share a reparation issue which calls “Comfort women state issue.” I posted a picture of the states in San Francisco. This is a social issue between Japan and South Korea. This has happened since World War 2. After World War 2 finished, Japan paid reparation because Japan and Germany lost at the time. During the war, many Japanese armies raped Korean women. However, after the war, the Japanese government have not paid specifically. The government thought that the reparation included for the rape, too. However, Korea government have not accepted yet. Therefore, the Korea government established the Comfort women state as a symbol for the victim. The government put the state in front of the Japanese agency in Korea and recently they put in front of Korea agency at San Francisco. I understand both countries opinions. The Korea government thinks that they felt really hard time during the war, and they had raped a lot. Then, the Japanese government should pay for the victim. On the other hand, the Japanese government thinks that they already paid after the war, so Korea should share the reparation. </span>

ParticipantI would like to share a segregation story in Japan. I picked the picture which shows that children which have Chinese parents study the Japanese language with the local student in Japan. I think that it is good for school because there is no segregation in school. However, in my view, there are many segregations to foreign students in school in Japan. First of all, when I was an elementary school student, there were a couple of foreign students. However, they are assigned the class which is only for foreign students. In my view, if they could not speak Japanese, it makes sense to assign a class without local students. However, they could speak Japanese fluently and their academic level was enough. Therefore, I thought it was so weird. Then, why are not they assigned a class with local students? The reason was that there are some parents who do not like to take their children together with foreign students. In addition, the children felt weird for the foreign students because of differences of appearance, and it sometimes leads to bullying. When I was in Japan, I thought that there is no racism in Japan because I have not seen the incidents by racism. However, there are few foreign people in Japan, and in fact, there are tons of racism and it leads to segregation. Now, the world is going to be globalization, including in Japan. Therefore, we should eliminate the segregation which has different education between local and foreign students if there is no difficulty to learn by the second language.

Participant<span style=”font-weight: 400;”>Which races do you guys think people who are in this picture? Actually, they do not look like Asian; however, they are one of the Japanese, sometimes call Ainu people. They are indigenous people in Hokkaido, the Northernmost of Japan’s main islands. The reason why I picked this picture up for Week 2 Photoshare is that I imagine these people while we talked about settler colonization during a class. Through Japanese history, till the 18th century, Japan reigned just mainland; therefore, Hokkaido was not a part of Japan at the time. However, since the 19th century has begun, the Japanese government have reigned Hokkaido, too. Then, Hokkaido was colonized by the Japanese government, and Ainu people lost their own place to live. Now, there is a movement which seeks not to lose Ainu people’s identity and culture. Thus, there are some events in Hokkaido which experience Ainu’s lifestyle. </span>
