For this weeks photo share I decided to share a screen shot of a poem by Arga Gra called “Are you calling me Colored.” I was trying at first to find a French poem like this that was written by an African who was enslaved and taken to France; but both however go over poetics of racist whom self elevate themselves in thinking their physical features make them better. The poem I believe also says of being proud and loving of your self and there maybe imperfection about oneself but there are as well in the accusers of others that try to act in their own view of perfection in there mission to differentiate themselves from others close to their space.

For this weeks photo share, I decided to share a photo from a two year old article on a racially charge photos from students of a Baltimore Private School. The photo shows a student wearing a prison jumpsuit with the name “Freddie Gray” whom in 2015 had died from injuries sustain from police that cause protest and riots in Baltimore; the image also has text saying “ur going to jail tonight.’ This is a pretty good example of white space as the students in this private school had thought it was appropriate for one of them to dress up for halloween as a dead black person and thinking this is not offensive to the people around as the majority of the student body is white and would not take offense. The lack of cultural sensibility shows that these students believe can act in their school this way is not only due to the school’s ability to teach them to be culturally aware of this but also not allowing a open pool of other black or minority students to attend the school and rebuke them for the students racial crime.

For this week photo share, I decided to share a screenshot of a screen shot of a video for Black Bird Watchers in an article about the rising but still small percentage of Black and minorities going to national parks. In the video, the bird watcher goes over rules for Black birdwatchers to never wear a hoody to not seem more suspicious as black people are discriminately label to some who may report him and have 2-3 IDs with them at all times for incase of police interaction. The article itself goes over the reason for why some black people or minorities do not go to the parks as it use to abide by Jim Crow law and are wary of past remnants that still may lay by authorities in the parks.

For this week, I have chosen a photo by Erick Risberg in an article from eji.org of the living quarters of a private own prison. The article goes over two of the biggest private prisons companies income of 3 billion dollars from more then 120,000 people in their prisons given from the federal government. Also goes over the methodology of these prisons of hiring lobbyist to influence the state criminal policies in order to keep their “lock-up quota” in check, essentially making sure their prisons are always full to make money from.

For this week I chose to show a photo from educationalviews.org feature an article about white flight and asian flight. The article talks about Mayor Bill De Blasio plan to ending meritocratic entry by removing admission standards and allowing other communities to attend specialty schools(emphasis like performing arts, hard sciences, engineering, academic achievement) that has cause an reaction from white and asian communities around these schools to protest this due to the belief that the schools educational and structural quality will go down because of open entry from other communities. From what I had briefly read, the writer of this article is also against by Mayor De Blasio decision to do this as he sees this as an unfair way to push students who work hard back in favor of vice versa.
I’m not sure if this photo is pro or con against the NY mayor plan as theres a sign that says “End Racism” but with other signs that say “protect our community” that interprets to me that there are people there in the pic who are either pro or con for this or it’s all against. It’s likely all against as the sign with “End Racism” may be against affirmative action where admission to schools is based on keeping quota of allowing a number of racial/ethnic group into them to have room for other groups to apply as well which the people with the sign sees this as racism.
Mother of all white flight to hit NY schools and De Blasio pretends he had nothing to do with it

For our weekly shares, I decided to show a comics; This has multiple images and I could not put the last one but a link will be below. The comics are made from other peoples and her experience of the subject of race around the country. In this she shares a story about someone who use to work in a office that would immediately disqualify black people when they apply for a job there.

This weeks photo is of a white man who called 911 on a black women name Jasmine Edwards who was trying to enter the neighborhood pool. When Edwards try to enter, the man ask her for ID to enter which she knew she did not need to enter the pool as she live in the neighborhood but the man did not believe her; he later called 911 on. When police showed up, they ask her to use the pool card every house gets; she demonstrates with her’s opening the gate and tells them there is no ID check in the neighborhood; the police then later leave and the white man still insist that he was right.
This example may be not a racist community approach against Edwards, but it does show that the white man who called 911 is only comfortable with white people in his neighborhood and perceives other ethnicities outside to not belong. Even if he was approaching this in a civil behavior, this definitely show how much he’s bias toward this black women when other white people around them were not ask.
