For this weeks photo share, Ive decided to talk about one of my favorite movies to this day- Hidden Figures. The movie incorporates the lives of three magnificent brilliant African-American women who are working at NASA and are trying to put the first man into orbit. Each of these woman struggle against the odds of segregation and racism in 1961. The one I would like to speak on today is Mary Jackson, a brilliant mathematician and aspiring aerospace engineer. In the movie, Mary works along side some of the brightest men in NASA in designing the space craft that would carry John Glenn. Yet, through the whole movie Mary is struggling to get her certification as an Aerospace engineer but in order to do that she must attend school to get her degree and with that her dream job. She files a civil plea to attend an all white school that offers the proper training. The judge granted her permission to only take night class and with that Mary Jackson was able to become the engineer she dreamed of being.

For this weeks photo share on segregation, I have decided to talk about the segregation that is going in currently in our Country. Recently, the Supreme Court has decided to uplift the ban on Transgenders participating in Military Service. Here we have a group of individuals who are being targeted and ostracized because of their sexual identity, this type of segregation effects as a whole community because they are United States Citizens who are being denied access to their civic duty of joining a Military branch to serve their country. There are both good men and women who have placed their lives on the line for the safety of this country and no that they are open and honest about who they are- they are being kicked out.
The picture that I have chosen to represent this weeks topic introduces to a struggling woman who is now struggling to reach her dreams. Jody Davis is a transgender woman who joined the military service at the age of 17 and worked her way to becoming a sergeant and now at the age of 48 she is a working nurse. Jody Davis wishes to become part of the Ohio National Guard but since the Supreme Court has revived the ban on Transgenders serving, is having a difficult time doing so.

For this weeks photo share I am choosing to discuss how an elderly Native American Man and a Vietnam Veteran, Nathan Philips, was harassed and disrupted by a group of boys from a Boys Catholic school as Mr. Philips was participating his freedom of assembly in a Indigenous Peoples March in Washington D.C January 19th. The boys from the Catholic School surrounded activist from the march and began chanting “Build The Wall” and “Trump 2020” all the while wearing MAGA hats. I believe this photo us direct correlation to the topic of theorizing race and space, where we have a group of indigenous people being targeted by white group of students who believe they are superior. Nathan Philips is a Vietnam Veteran who put his life on the line for the sake of the country he calls home. The boys of the catholic school displayed signs of hate, disrespect and intolerance. Since the video and the images have gone viral those who are clearly seen in the media post are now facing disciplinary actions for partaking in this restricting access from the march. They blocked activist from going anywhere and surrounded them with hateful words of bigotry.
This image shows that what has happened in the past is happening now. We are still facing racism in public spaces in ways that are unimaginable.
