Monica Gonzalez was born and raised in San Diego, in the culturally diverse neighborhood of City Heights. She attended the University of California, San Diego for her bachelor’s degree in Human Developmental Sciences and minor in Education, and the University of San Diego for her master’s degree in Student Affairs, specifically Higher Education Leadership. She currently works as the Student Life Operations Specialist at the Raza Resource Centro at UCSD.

In her interview, she discusses her early life in City Heights and the importance of the diversity in San Diego. She talks about her educational background, college experiences, and how she ended up working at the Raza Resource Centro. She discusses the importance of community, diversity, and opportunities for students on campus, as well as expresses her love for her career and creating this community at the RRC.

The interview covers topics such as: community, diversity, education, Latinx, and student life. We met through the Race and Oral History Project’s partnership with the Raza Resource Centro.
