Edward Pohlert is a cultural psychologist and faculty member at Miracosta College in North County, San Diego. Born in Amsterdam to parents of Dutch and Indonesian descent, Edward immigrated with his family to Southern California in 1966 and has a multiethnic and cultural background that allows him to serve a diverse group of students and organizations. He speaks English, Dutch, Spanish, and Indonesian, traveled extensively, and has been settled in San Diego for the last 35 years. Edward is a first-generation immigrant who has earned a bachelor’s degree in social work from California State University, Los Angeles, a master’s degree in counseling from San Diego State University, and a PsyD in cultural psychology from Alliant International University. He holds a love for storytelling through his work on short-form documentaries, producing pieces documenting familial storytelling and history, community outreach, cultural identity and affirmation, and much more. His path toward educational empowerment and documented storytelling stems from his experience crossing boundaries as a multiethnic person and developing a love for his identity and connection of people.
