On January 15, 2020, the UCSD Org Council for Social Justice in the University held their winter conference. Members of the project exhibited the timeline banners and set up a feedback board at a free speech event organized by Beagle RA, Sudarshan Srinivasan, from Revelle College. This program’s goal was to “inform residents about their responsibility regarding individual free speech” and the event featured a plywood wall to spray paint freedom of speech messages, an “ask a lawyer” booth with Student Legal Services and a lawyer present, a free speech gallery, and more.Read More →

Members of the project presented the student activism timeline as part of the Social Science Division training for incoming Teaching Assistants (SS TA Training) to help prepare them to teach Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion courses. “One of our goals is to help incoming graduate students to understand some of the events that occurred during 2010, and the student activism that helped lead to changes on campus (including the DEI requirement). Tell Us How UC It: A Living Archive debuted with an exhibit in the UC San Diego Library from February 1 – March 31, 2017 that included a history of student activism timeline, a selection of the creative work from students expressing their experience of the campus climate, and an area for visitor feedback.
