On May 9th, during last class, we took a field trip down to Barrio Logan where we visited Chicano Park. We all took a charter bus together, which was so graciously provided by SPACES. Once at Chicano Park, we all gathered around for about 20 minutes to listen about the park’s history as well as directions for what we were going to be doing. After this, we broke up into small groups or pairs and wandered the park, taking pictures and visiting some of the establishments to get a feel of the community. Walking around with my classmates helped me learn more about the art pieces because many of them knew about the stories behind the piece and were able to explain it to me. Towards the end of the trip, the folks from SPACES bought us all pastries from a local bakery and then we were on our way back to campus.
