I had the great pleasure of interviewing Maria Elena Alvarado, who is my mother. She is 44 years old, a mother of first-generation students and Americans, and is originally from Queretaro, Mexico. She shares the details of her upbringing in Mexico, her journey to the United States, and making a living in America as an undocumented individual. This interview covers topics such as immigration, life in America as an undocumented immigrant, and the impact the American naturalization process has on families. This interview was conducted in person and recorded through Zoom. The interview was conducted by Leslee Soria Alvarado, a first year Political Science major at UCSD who is interested in law and public service.
