This oral history focuses on the experiences of Gabriela Miramontes, who is originally from Long Beach, California and is the Assistant Program Coordinator of the TRiO Student Support Services Programn(SSP). Gabriela identifies using she/her pronouns, is first-generation, and is a member of the Latinx community. In the interview, Gabriela provides an overview of her upbringing as well as her unique struggles when she transitioned from living in Long Beach and later moving to San Diego. She also describes her role as the Assistant Program Coordinator of TRiO SSSP, previous involvement with student organizations at UCSD, including Movimiento Studiantil Chicanola de Aztlan (MEChA), where she served as a general board member and how her earlier experiences helped shape her career path. This interview covers topics including first-generation student experiences, student support services, and aspirations for future collaborations between UCSD organizations. The interviewee was recommended by the staff members at the Raza Resource Centro (RRC) and the interview was conducted via Zoom. The interview was conducted by Saul Oliveros, a first-generation, fourth-year Human Biology major at University of California San Diego (UCSD) who is interested in pursuing a career as a physical therapist.
