The Race and Oral History Project partners with community-based grassroots organizations in the Greater San Diego region that serve to empower historically marginalized communities, including migrants, refugees and detainees. The oral history interviews record the stories of the individuals doing this work. The project emphasizes the slow work of building long-term and reciprocal relationships that outlast that moment in time. Through the partnerships, the project seeks to amplify the activist work of these organizations and to begin to repair the harmful ways that the University has related historically to surrounding communities of color.
