Maleeka Marsden was born in Tucson, Arizona and has now lived in San Diego for about 10 years. She is the Co-Director of Policy at the Climate Action Campaign. She works towards ensuring that cities pass strong climate action plans and in advocating for a San Diego New Green Deal, which is an effort to achieve zero carbon emissions. The interview covers topics about public transportation in San Diego and how it compares to transit systems in other cities like Tokyo. The interview also covers sustainability, affordable and efficient transportation, and what that means for communities of concern. The interview was conducted over Zoom on May 6th 2020 in order to comply with social distancing guidelines and recommendations due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The interview was conducted by Pichly (Crystal) Chea, an undergraduate senior student at UCSD.
