Abdirizak Ahmed is the youth coordinator for UWEAST. Abdirizak Ahmed was born in Kenya and immigrated to the United States when he was about 6 months old. He has lived in San Diego since and particularly in City Heights. In this interview he recounts how culturally rich and diverse the City Heights community is, the impacts of COVID-19 on community work, and cultural practices such as Ramadan. This interview also covers topics such as Abdirizak Ahmed’s inspiration in fighting for immigrant and refugee rights, his work as a youth coordinator, and the presence of law enforcement in communities like City Heights. The interview was conducted on June 18th 2020 by Jamilah Bellinger, an undergraduate student at UCSD.
