ORCiD news and research

Due to a new (announced July 10, 2019) NIH Requirement for ORCID iDs for Individuals Supported by Research Training, Fellowship, Research Education, and Career Development Awards Beginning in FY 2020, Scholarly Communication at the UC San Diego Library has received an increasing number requests for training and best practices by our faculty, research centers, and campus administration. UCSD has an institutional membership but we have not yet integrated with our RIM, profile, IR, or ETD submission systems. Contact us for more information or a training.

ABOUT FSCI2019

FSCI 2019 (FORCE11 Scholarly Communications Institute)  is being held this year at UCLA in Los Angeles, California from August 5 – 9, 2019.  It is the premiere community-led and organised summer school on current trends in Scholarly Communication. Our instructors are community members who are passionate about passing on their knowledge and experience to others in Scholarly Communication and Open Research. They range from up-and-coming researchers and practitioners to world-leading experts. The students they teach come from a wide variety of backgrounds: research, funding, administration, publishing, libraries, and information users; from absolute beginners to discipline leaders. They are eager to learn and represent an excellent source of potential collaborations. Learn more.

Plans are in full swing for the Choosing Pathways to Open Access or CP2OA18 happening on the UC Berkeley campus on October 16-17, 2018. #cp2oa18 @UCB_ScholComm

Sponsored by the UC Libraries, librarians from several of the UC campuses and several California Digital Library (CDL) staff are knee-deep in planning efforts to engage library decision-makers across the United States.

CP2OA18 is a “free two-day working forum for North American library or consortium leaders and key academic stakeholders centered on action-focused deliberations about redirecting subscription and other funds toward sustainable open access publishing.”

We’ve created a CP2OA18 reading list at the UC San Diego Library, starting with the Choosing Pathways Toolkit in addition to incorporating suggested resources and citations gathered from the various reports.The CP2OA working group will distribute preparation materials in coming months.

Courses  Posted and Registration Open for the 2nd Annual FORCE11 Scholarly Communications Institute (FSCI2018).  The Institute will again be hosted by the University of California, San Diego from July 30 – August 3, 2018.  See more information here www.force11.org/fsci/2018.

FSCI2018 offers participants 5 days of training and skills development in new modes of research communication.  All levels of participants, from absolute beginners to advancedat scholarly communication, will find courses of interest.  If you are a scholar/researcher, librarian, institution administrator, funding agency manager, publishing administrator/editor, data manager, student, or anyone else who participates in scholarly communication, you will benefit from attending FSCI.

FSCI is organized by FORCE11 (The Future of Research Communication and e-Scholarship) in collaboration with the University of California San Diego Library.  Force11 is a community of scholars, librarians, archivists, publishers, and research funders who study and facilitate new developments in knowledge creation and communication.
